Discover Brisbane and Southeast Queensland

Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, is one of Australia’s fastest-growing and most welcoming cities. Set along the winding Brisbane River, it blends a relaxed subtropical lifestyle with vibrant culture, thriving research universities, and a flourishing food and arts scene. The city is also looking ahead to the future: Brisbane will proudly host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, cementing its status as a global destination for sport, culture, and international collaboration.

Just steps from the conference centre, visitors will find South Bank Parklands, with its riverside gardens, cafes, and the iconic Streets Beach lagoon. The nearby Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Museum, and Queensland Performing Arts Centre showcase the state’s cultural heart. A short ferry ride along the river provides stunning views of the Story Bridge and the city skyline.

Beyond Brisbane, South East Queensland offers world-class natural attractions. To the north, the Sunshine Coast beckons with golden beaches, the Glass House Mountains, and lush hinterland villages. To the south, the Gold Coast is famous for its surf, nightlife, and rainforest escapes in the Lamington and Springbrook ranges. Within an hour’s drive west, the Scenic Rim delivers spectacular hiking, wineries, and charming country towns.

For conference delegates, July is an ideal time to visit. Brisbane enjoys a mild subtropical winter, with sunny days averaging 20–22°C (68–72°F) and cool evenings around 10°C (50°F). Rain is infrequent, making it perfect for sightseeing, outdoor dining, and exploring the region. It’s the best season to experience Queensland’s laid-back lifestyle without the summer heat.

Getting to Brisbane

Brisbane is well connected to the world through Brisbane Airport (BNE), located just 20 minutes from the city centre. The airport offers direct international flights from Asia, the Middle East, North America, and Europe, along with frequent domestic connections to Sydney, Melbourne, and other Australian cities. For delegates arriving from overseas, airport transfers are convenient via the Airtrain, shuttle services, taxis, or rideshare options. Visitors from many countries are eligible for streamlined electronic visas (eVisitor or ETA), making entry to Australia straightforward.

Accommodation

A wide range of accommodation is available within easy walking distance of the conference venue and the Brisbane River precinct. Delegates can choose from internationally recognised hotels such as the Hilton, Westin, W Hotel, Marriott, and Hyatt Regency, as well as boutique hotels and serviced apartments that cater to longer stays. For those seeking budget-friendly options, there are numerous quality hostels, budget hotels, and university-affiliated accommodations. Many of these properties are clustered around South Bank, the central business district (CBD), and Fortitude Valley, offering easy access to restaurants, cultural attractions, and the conference site. Early booking is recommended, as July is a popular month for both tourism and academic meetings in Brisbane. We will have a list of these hotels and their contact information available in early 2026.
